It’s commonly used to manage minor thoracic wounds, surgical incisions, or to provide light support and absorb drainage in patients with chest tube placements or localized injuries.

Purpose and Application

This bandage is ideal for:

• Post-surgical care after thoracic procedures
• Wound protection on the chest or lateral thorax
• Securing chest drains or covering drain exit sites
• Compression for mild seromas or localized swelling
• Post-biopsy support (e.g., for mass removals on the chest wall)
• The "cross" shape pattern helps the bandage stay secure and contour naturally around the animal’s chest and front limbs, reducing slippage and improving comfort.

Bandage Construction

• Primary Layer: A non-adherent pad is placed over the wound or surgical site if applicable.
• Padding: Soft cast padding or roll gauze may be used to create a light cushion and absorb any drainage.
• Wrap Technique: Elastic gauze or cohesive bandage material is wrapped in a figure-eight (criss-cross) pattern over the chest and around each forelimb. This creates the "cross your heart" shape, providing gentle pressure and a snug, secure hold.
• Final Layer: VetWrap or similar cohesive wrap is used to finish the bandage. Care should be taken to avoid tightness that could impair breathing.
